Prepared the landscape Master Plan and detailed landscape architectural design for Erickson Living’s continuing care retirement campus in Ashburn, Virginia.
Located on a 123-acre site, the Ashby Ponds Master Plan complements the characteristics of the site’s surrounding Virginia Piedmont landscape. The plan is based on a college campus concept with each of the three neighborhoods focused on a community building and associated internal courtyard spaces. Wide park-like green spaces defined by curving walkways, plantings and traditional architecture connect each of the neighborhoods. Parts of each of the three neighborhoods face Beaverdam Run, with views toward woods and the stream.
A series of ponds treat stormwater and further expand the natural system following the floodplain. The campus is knit together with a planting scheme that emphasizes native species and plant groupings based on naturally occurring associations.
Other sustainable project features include the use of state-of-the-art, energy efficient, dark-sky compliant site lighting.
