Brandywine School

Brandywine, Maryland

The new Brandywine 3–8 School is designed to modernize and expand capacity for students from 3rd through 8th grade. Located at the Gwynn Park Middle School site in the Brandywine neighborhood of Prince George's County, the school will accommodate 1,544 students across 197,976 square feet.

Students, parents, and staff are greeted by a welcoming entry plaza that serves as the heart of the campus, offering a sense of arrival and connection to the surrounding school grounds. Grand steps establish the plaza as a central gathering point, gently leading up to the main entrance.

The school design features flexible learning spaces, specialized classrooms for science, art, and music, a modern media center, a full-size gymnasium, and dedicated wings for elementary and middle school students.

To the side of the entry plaza, an outdoor classroom sits atop a decked platform, nestled beside a lush rain garden. Outdoor classrooms provide flexible space for interactive lessons, allowing students to engage with nature while learning. The rain gardens — planted with carefully chosen species — serve as both an educational tool and an environmental feature, filtering rainwater and promoting sustainability.

An extensive open lawn circle offers a versatile area where outdoor activities, gatherings, and play can unfold. Nearby, a playground, paved courts, athletic fields, and open field are designed for active exploration and physical development for students of all ages.

Together, the campus creates a dynamic, multi-functional space that encourages learning, interaction, and connection to nature.
