Eliot on 4th

Washington, DC

LSG Landscape Architecture prepared the stage II PUD plans for an 11 story, 375-unit mixed-use residential project, part of Forest City’s Washington DC SW Waterfront Station mixed-use development. The project is a partnership of Forest City Washington, Vornado/Charles E. Smith and Bresler & Reiner, Inc.

Specifically targeting the socially and environmentally sensitive Millennial demographics, the courtyard design draws its inspiration from abstract artists like Piet Mondrian and Burgoyne Diller. Utilizing a combination of hardscape elements such as paving materials, benches, structures, softscape like lawn panel, elevated planters, greenroof plantings, the scheme seeks to create a visually intriguing tapestry, while accommodating various user groups.

Streetscape along 4th Street follows a design palette established by the previous phases. Along the project’s northern edge, an existing grove of urban trees will be preserved to provide the project with an instant urban oasis. Streetscape along the permeable private street is both lush and intimate in scale.
