Play DC

Washington, DC

LSG was selected by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the Department of General Services (DGS) to provide design, construction documentation and construction phase services for multiple playgrounds under the Play DC playground improvement project. In conjunction with LSG’s prior park design work, the firm has contributed to providing a diverse mix of safe playgrounds for children living in and visiting the District. All projects included working closely with the local communities, ANC representatives and others to reach consensus on final designs. LSG projects include:

Friendship Recreation Center – LSG is completing design plans for new play spaces to accompany a new recreation center at the neighborhood’s beloved “Turtle Park.” The final design maximizes existing trees and employs natural materials in playground construction.

Harrison Recreation Center – Reflecting the musical heritage of the nearby U Street corridor, three major elements of the new playground feature music – its ground plane, its play equipment and the sprayground all feature musical themes.

Palisades Playground – The renovated park includes a new playground, spray park, skate spot, a yoga lawn and community gardening plots. Park elements reflect Potomac River themes and highlight the Native American culture particular to the history of the area.

Upshur Park – LSG completed improvements including a new U-8 synthetic infilled-turf playing field, repairs to an existing playground and a walking path. Joseph Cole Recreation Center – This renovated park includes a flat playing field for group sports, a playground for ages 5 – 12, a tot lot for ages 2 – 5, a spray ground, a picnic area, a community-gathering place and a walking loop to serve the Trinidad community and adjacent elementary school.
