As team landscape architect for the design of this performing arts-based community center, LSG looked into several potential sites for this facility within the Van Dyck Park site. The preferred scheme creates a municipal campus with the community center and the adjacent police station focused on a large green space. The final preferred scheme addressed parking, storm water management, tree preservation and budget constraints. It was selected through a series of meetings with the community, mayor and council.
Once the site master plan was complete, LSG refined the landscape design for the public outdoor gathering spaces associated with the new center. The completed public green features a brick plaza with seat walls. The site is frequently used for weddings and public events. The project was awarded the Best New Facility Award by The Virginia Recreation and Parks Society.
