LSG Landscape Architecture was retained by the project architectural team to provide landscape architectural services for the renovation of a community space adjacent to the Wheatley Elementary School and proposed Joseph Cole Recreation Center. The project included demolishing the existing community center and reconstructing it adjacent to the school, to create a larger park of 1.8 acres – 70% larger than the existing park. LSG worked with architects of both the school and recreation center to implement the landscape in multiple phases of construction. The renovated park includes a flat playing field for group sports, a playground for ages 5 – 12, a tot lot for ages 2 – 5, a spray ground, a picnic area, a community-gathering place and a walking loop to serve the surrounding Trinidad community and adjacent elementary school. The park renovation was well received by the community and it has become a focus of positive neighborhood activity.
